Whether you’re a special needs parent, a friend of a special needs family, or a parent who sees all children and families as wonderfully made by a loving God, you’ve come to the right place. And I’m thrilled you’re here!
I’m Katie, a southern girl living in a small town on the South Shore outside of Boston, MA with my husband, Jeff, and three young children, Jack, Kristen, and Connor. This blog was born in 2013 when my oldest son, Jack, was diagnosed with autism. Most recently, he was diagnosed with PANDAS/PANS, an autoimmune disorder in which the immune system mistakenly attacks the brain and causes life-changing neuropsychiatric symptoms. His younger sister, Kristen, has special needs as well, including ADHD and a rare genetic condition called Ehlers Danlos, which affects her skin, joints, and connective tissue.
Their needs have required me to dig deep, learn who I truly am, and stand firm in what I believe. They’ve inspired me to let go of perfectionism and embrace life as it comes. To see the journey, in both it’s joys and it’s challenges, as wonderfully made. And I’m passionate about helping special needs parents find the joy and design in their own lives with a large dose of encouragement along the way.
When I first started Wonderfully Made Living, it was simply an outlet for me to share our story about life with a child on the autism spectrum. Since then, my mission has grown to help special needs families through community, connection, empathy, and honesty.
I’d love for you to join our supportive community of like-hearted parents and friends on Facebook where you can connect, ask questions, and get to know other special needs parents both in the Boston area and across the country! I’d also love to connect with you on Instagram, where I share insights into daily life as a special needs family.
