Faithful Fitness Finale: Strength for the Journey

Faithful Fitness Finale: Strength for the Journey | Wonderfully Made

Up until this series, I thought fitness was only about being physically fit. I thought of fitness only in the context of having lean arms and legs, and a tight stomach. I envisioned taking before and after photos, and being able to see results at the conclusion of the series.

I am now round and pregnant, and waddling from my house to my car is the extent of my physical fitness. But I looked in the mirror yesterday morning, in my PJ pants and maternity shirt, and saw myself differently than I had just a few months ago. There I was all pregnant and large, but, for the first time in a long time, I found the person looking back at me to be beautiful.

I saw that God had been working in my heart and mind more than in my muscles. I saw that He had changed my perspective to truly reflect that which we set out to achieve when we started this series: to care for and celebrate the bodies God gave us.

And this perspective was so different from just a few months ago, when I wrote:

When I looked in the mirror, I saw a body that was damaged. I focused on the way I felt my body should look in comparison to others and the frustration I felt when my body limited me from doing more, rather than caring for and celebrating the body God gave me.

What I’ve realized is that fitness is less about physical strength and more about feeling whole in who we are and loving the person God created us to be. It is about building strength for the journey, and sharing that journey with others who will build us up more than protein or pushups ever could.

Aprille has been strength for the journey for me in so many ways, and I am so thankful to her for her commitment to this series, I could not have done it without her.

And she and I could not have done it without you. You, too, have given us strength for the journey and we hope this series will be one you can turn to time and again for encouragement along yours.

Thank you for being a part of Faithful Fitness. You have blessed us by being part of it, and we hope you will continue to pursue fitness of mind, body, and soul.
